Teck-Zilla assembles a crew of the country’s most promising emcees for the official “MP3” video.
Lead by Lagos’ self-proclaimed First Female President Phlow, the RCube-shot video is said to be inspired by the legendary Chuck D’s quote “The Super MC is the one that can spit in more than two languages.” With help from fellow Nigerian emcees Pryse and Mz Kiss, all three rappers successfully flip their native tongue of Yoruba and English.
Ma-E and Maggz sing – raps in this new joint. The former has been promoting his new single Kanjalo for 2 weeks but the big day for him is finally here.It is a slow paced lovable tune and Kanjalo takes us away from the usual noise we’ve been been hearing lately and focuses on the music.
Renowned Yoruba lyricist Reminisce is back with a spanking new single titled Level Yen, which was produced by T-Izze, on the song he shows that he is still a lyrical animal that can go toe to toe with any rapper in the world, check it out and enjoy that pure unadulterated street rap music from Alaga Samsung himself.
This is still considered as one of the best collaborations in South African music scene featuring veteran HHP. Interestingly,
Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP), real name Jabulani Tsambo said he tried to commit suicide three times in 2015 in a radio interview.
He said the first two suicide attempts came as he was struggling to get gigs and radio stations were not playing his music anymore.
“I thought to myself, radio is starting to play trap music only and I cannot do trap music,” as a result, he says he felt like a loser.
On the first attempt, Jabba said he waited for his children to go to school, went into his garage and tried committing suicide through carbon monoxide poisoning, which did not work after an hour of inhaling the gas. He then asked his friend for his car to attempt the suicide again, which did not work.
The third and last time he tried suicide was after he had a “silly” fight with his girlfriend. He waited for her to leave the house and tried helium poisoning which also failed.
HHP said he had prepared for his death as he called his financial manager before and asked him if they covered suicide, he said he made sure his son’s education fund was also in check as he could go to school until he was 28.
HPP, however, said he tried counselling first before suicide attempts but could not continue as they were expensive.
After the suicide attempts, HHP says he heard a voice tell him “If you really want to die, you need to live”, that’s when he decided to stop with his attempts.
So glad he is dealing with it (hope he still is).
Here is HHP Teargas & Liquideep “Born for this” music video shot by Gorilla FIlms and directed by Justin Campos:
Nasty C’s earlier nominated music videos for Good Girls and Don’t Do It have been removed from the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) nominations after several outrage online that the music videos do not qualify. The videos didn’t air within the time frame for award consideration.
“Our investigations have revealed that the videos were submitted for entry on 24 January 2017. We have further determined that the videos were not flighted before the closing date of the entries of 31 January 2017 as required by the SAMA rules.
“In light of this, the two music videos are automatically disqualified because they do not meet the criteria for Best Music Video Category,” organisers said in a statement.
Nasty C’s disqualification means Kwesta is now the most nominated artiste for the award with 6 nominations while Nasty C drops to 5.
Nasty C’s rival Malinga has also taken shades at him. Well, that’s if Malinga’s latest comments are anything to go by.
Malinga fired a string of fresh shots at the Hell Naw hitmaker. In a string of tweets Malinga celebrated Nasty’s disqualification.
The kickmaster said that Nasty was a “late comer” and even alluded that maybe it was a case of ‘karma’ at play.
“Well done @kwestadakar [Kwesta] we recognize you, lion of judah is intervening now,” Malinga said.
South Africa’s most successful rapper Cassper Nyovest would be releasing his new album ‘Thuto’ on the 7th of May while his also his sister’s birthday. While some of his friends have gotten the album already, Cassper has finally dropped the album track list for the rest of us. Cassper releases Thuto album track list.
A few features on the album from his Family Tree artists. One with Nadia Nakai on the track, ‘Top Shayela’ and two songs featuring Tshego. There’s also an interlude by Riky Rick. And it looks like Nasty C didn’t make in time to make the cut.
Thuto consists of 16 track album with Tito Mboweni declared as the worst song on the album by Cassper.
See the track list below:
on meeting Wizkid? I’ve known Wizkid for a few years. He called me and said he wanted to go over some ideas, so we linked up in LA.
on the Kaleidoscopic theme for ‘come closer’ video? We wanted something to give the video an extra kick without doing too much. That was added in after the main edit and grade had been completed.
on models in the video? One of Wiz’s points for this piece was to show black women in a certain light — to have them looking majestic. Which is also in line with my thoughts for certain projects. It’s good to mix things up and not always show a group of people the same way. And besides, who doesn’t like chocolate?
on Drake’s absence? I just do my job with the cards that are dealt, and I do it well.
on Afrobeats going int’l?
I think it’s great. And I would love Nigeria to be the Jamaica of Africa in terms of exporting our culture, music, fashion, food — Jamaica has done a good job of that. Afrobeats is going to be the torch that brings the eyes and ears to the continent.
I don’t think there’s any cookie-cutter way to deal with foreign labels. But in short, people need to stay true to who they are, and don’t let others capitalize incorrectly on what they’ve built.
on What should we look out for, from Daps? A lot, ha ha. More videos, TV, film, fashion. Watch the wave.
